LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11 / CNS) - A day before the holiday weekend getaway begins, a computer glitch turned LAX into a parking lot.
A computer software problem resulted in a ground stop of all flights at Los Angeles International Airport for a time Thursday before technicians were able to resolve the issue, authorities said.
There were 145 delays and seven cancelations, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The glitch grounded all flights around 7:30 a.m. and only lasted about an hour, but the ripple effect continued into the afternoon.
"(It's) frustrating because we're trying to get out there on a cruise, a family trip. And it's frustrating when you're trying to relax and you're like - let's decompress - and then you're being halted," said Shamekka Marty, whose flight was delayed.
While some were briefly halted, others were fined for cancelling their Uber drivers.
"Honestly I'm late for my Uber so I had to cancel it twice because I had to wait for my baggage," Marty added.
Some are padding an extra hour for return trips, bracing for long TSA lines.
"I think we'll be at the airport three hours early just to make sure everything runs smoothly," said Mandy Witt.
The end of Memorial Day fears are understandable. LAX said it expects an 8.1 percent jump in traffic this Memorial Day weekend.
They also expect a 7.3 percent increase this summer -- and they expect TSA lines to grow longer then too.
