Proposed Angels stadium in Long Beach could cost more than $1 billion

The city of Long Beach is making a big pitch to bring the Angels to the downtown area.

A $1.1 billion project is being proposed to bring the stadium to the area near Beach Access Road and Shoreline Drive.

If Mayor Robert Garcia and Angels owner, Arte Moreno come to an agreement, the arena attacked to the Long Beach Convention Center could be demolished.

The city received a study that explored options for paying some or all of the $1.1 billion, according to documents released Monday night.

If the Angles agree to move to Long Beach this year, the new waterfront ballpark probably wouldn't open there before the 2025 season.

The Angels have said they hope to decide between Anaheim and Long Beach by the end of this year, likely because the lease with Anaheim ends after the 2020 season.
