EL MONTE, Calif. (FOX 11 / CNS) - A 37-year-old pregnant woman was shot in El Monte and later died and authorities searched Thursday for the woman's husband, who police believe is the killer.
El Monte police officers responded to an assault-with-a-deadly-weapon call about 9 p.m. Wednesday in the 2700 block of Leafdale Avenue and discovered the woman inside the home, suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to Deputy Trina Schrader of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
The victim was transported to a hospital where she and the fetus were pronounced dead, she said. Sheriff's detectives assisted police with the investigation and believe the shooting stems from a domestic violence incident.
The suspect was identified as 36-year-old Ocatvio Curiel. He was last seen leaving the scene in a 2018 Red Toyota Tacoma truck with license plate 81718L2, Schrader said. Curiel is armed with a handgun and is considered dangerous.
Curiel and the victim shared a home together and have additional minor children in common, but authorities do not believe the children were home at the time of the incident, said Schrader.
