Powerball, Mega Millions both top $300 million-dollar jackpots

U.S. lottery players will have a choice of games offering jackpots topping $300 million for the second time in a week.

In the seven years since all U.S. lotteries began selling both Powerball and Mega Millions tickets, both games have never offered prizes so large at the same time. The first time was Tuesday.

The jackpot for Friday night's Mega Millions drawing is an estimated $393 million, and the top prize for Saturday night's Powerball drawing is $356 million. Those prizes are based on annuity options, paid over 29 years. Cash prizes would be an estimated $246.5 million for Mega Millions and $224 million for Powerball.

The numbers in tonight's draw of the multi-state Mega Millions lottery are 23, 33, 53, 56, 58 and the Mega number is 6. The drawing was the 30th since the last time a ticket with all six numbers was sold.

The odds of matching all five numbers and the Mega number is 1 in 258,890,850, according to the Mega Millions website. The overall chance of winning a prize is 1 in 14.71.

The Mega Millions game is played in 44 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. Virgin Islands.

Friday's jackpot will be the sixth largest in the 15-year history of Mega Millions.
