Investigation underway after woman found dead in car on 10 Freeway

EL MONTE, Calif. (FOX 11) - Investigators want help to out who killed the woman behind the wheel of a white sedan early Tuesday in El Monte.

A tow truck driver saw a car disabled around 4 a.m. on the side of the 10 Freeway near the Peck Road exit.

California Highway Patrol Officer Chris Baldonado told FOX 11, "The tow truck driver approaches the vehicle. It's a white sedan. Sees a victim unresponsive."

He called for help, and arriving CHP officers found the woman shot in the head.

Officers shut down all lanes of the eastbound side of the 10 Freeway as officers conducted an intense investigation. The freeway was backed up for hours.

From before dark with flashlights until after the sun came up and into the late morning hours, officers searched for shell casings or any possible clue as to what happened.

Was it car-to-car? Was there a passenger with her?

The windows were shattered, but investigators said that could have happened when the car collided into a freeway wall.

FOX 11 spoke briefly with family members, but they wanted to be left alone. They were understandably upset.

The big question for law enforcement is who pulled the trigger and why?

The freeway finally reopened by midday, but the investigation continues.

"If anyone sees something, please call your local area CHP office," one officer said.
