Porter Ranch: Erin Brockovich and Associates to Hand Out Air Monitors

According to the publicist for Erin Brockovich the environmental activist will spend part of Tuesday passing out air monitor canisters in Porter Ranch. Along with Weitz and Luxenberg, Brockovich will be passing this canisters out to measure the level of toxicity in the air. She tells us that they will be gathering evidence for community members as they prepare to file a case in the next few days.

Even though Southern California Gas Company has daily air monitor tests Brockovich and company are said to feel there has been a Lack of information about the real toxicity of air so, they are gathering it on their own and will send it to labs.

The natural gas/methane leak has upset many in Porter Ranch. Homeowner Christine Katz says, "I'm disgusted. I'm heartbroken." Her 5 kids and husband have all experienced some impact from the leak. Her two-and-a-half year old Ava has had a difficult series of health issues and, as a result the family filed a lawsuit Friday against Southern California Gas.

Their attorney, Patricia Oliver, says "Her suit is because her family is adversely impacted to the point that her two and a half year old daughter was in the ICU for 4 days." Says Ava's mom Christine, "She had a seizure… she had been sick for two weeks… in and out of urgent care… doctors offices… couldn't figure out what was wrong with her and she got sick had a seizure and was in the hospital for four days."

Southern California Gas continues to apologize for the leak. The company says the gas is non-toxic and quotes the LA County Public Department that has said there will be no long lasting effects.

The company has been relocating customers to hotels.
