Police release security video in effort to find suspect in hit-and-run death

LOS ANGELES, CA (CNS) - Authorities on Monday released new security video in an effort to find the hit-and-run motorist responsible for the death of a 78-year-old pedestrian near downtown Los Angeles.

Byung Yu was in a crosswalk when he was struck about 5:20 a.m. Aug. 10 at Third Street and Union Avenue. He died at the scene.

The hit-and-run vehicle was described as a gray 2012-2015 Chevrolet Blazer that likely has collision damage to its front end, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. No suspect description was available.

A news conference was held at the crime scene this morning to seek public help to find the hit-and-run motorist.

"If the driver would have just stopped, identified themselves and rendered aid, this would have been investigated as a fatality collision," said LAPD Detective Moses Castillo. "But now, because this person fled ... now he's a wanted suspect."

A reward of up to $50,000 has been authorized under a Los Angeles city program designed to help solve hit-and-run cases.
