Driver accused of running stop sign leads police on high-speed chase

A driver suspected of running a stop sign in South Gate led police on a half-hour high-speed chase into Lynwood before surrendering after the car's tires were flattened by a spike strip.

The chase began about 8:30 p.m. Saturday near Liberty Boulevard and State Street, California Highway Patrol Officer Alex Rubio said.

The suspect drove at speeds in excess of 80 mph, at one point taking to eastbound Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway before exiting onto Imperial Highway.

After the car's tired were flattened, the vehicle slowed to a crawl and eventually came to stop, at which point the male driver surrendered to officers.
