Police increase presence on campus amid threats of mass shooting at CSUN

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. (FOX 11) - A new threat of deadly violence was reported Monday at Cal State Northridge for the second time in a week, officials said.

A threatening letter making the rounds on social media was found Monday by a student at Redwood Hall, officials said.

"I am writing this to inform the people of CSUN that I will kill everyone on the 12 of December 2018,'' the letter reads. "I am aware that I will probably (be) shot and killed, but before that happens, I'm killing as many (expletive) as I possibly can."

CSUN Police Chief Anne Glavin said school authorities were aware of the threat, but it was too soon to determine if the threat was credible.

The Los Angeles police are assisting in the investigation, she said.

Last Wednesday, a shooting threat and swastika were found scrawled in a toilet in Sierra Hall. The threat read "Mass shooting in Sierra Hall 12/12/18'' with the swastika below.

In response, the school's president announced Wednesday there would be an increased police presence at the school throughout finals week -- which begins Wednesday.

"It saddens and angers me that the hate and threat of violence affecting colleges, universities and communities nationwide has come to CSUN. There is no place at CSUN for this cowardly act that seeks to intimidate," CSUN President Dr. Dianne F. Harrison said in a message online. "Students learning in a safe and supportive environment is our top priority."
