Stolen vehicle suspect in custody after chase through Compton, freeways

A suspect in what was reported to be a stolen SUV led law enforcement personnel on an approximately 90-minute chase Monday that began and ended in Compton.

The chase began just before 7 p.m. and continued on the San Diego (405), Harbor (110), Glen Anderson (105) and Long Beach (710) freeways as well as surface streets with Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies and California Highway Patrol officers in pursuit.

The suspect began driving at increased speeds and disregarding traffic lights after two PIT maneuvers failed to bring the chase to halt.

The driver eventually stopped the vehicle, got out and began walking away but appeared to have been zapped with a stun gun before being taken into custody in Compton, according to broadcast reports.

The pursuit of a silver Nissan Rogue continued onto several area freeways and surface streets in the Compton area.

The suspect was eventually taken into custody after a pair of PIT maneuvers failed to stop the vehicle and he fled on foot.
