Pasadena police investigate fatal hit and run crash

Pasadena police on Monday investigated the death of a woman who was struck by a hit-and-run driver as she crossed a street.

The crash occurred about 7:20 p.m. Sunday on Fair Oaks Avenue just north of Claremont Street, Pasadena Police Lt. Max Dahlstein said.

Jessica Torres, 27, died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office. Torres was crossing the street when she was hit and there was no crosswalk at the location, Dahlstein said.

The driver fled north Fair Oaks Avenue after the crash. The vehicle was described only as a white SUV.

The crash shut down Fair Oaks Avenue from Claremont Street to Washington Boulevard. It was reopened just before 1 a.m. Monday.

Anyone with information on the hit-and-run driver was urged to call Pasadena police at (626) 744-4241.
