Overturned semi-truck spills oil across 5 freeway, lanes closed

A semi-truck crashed and overturned, spilling oil on the connector road from the southbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway to the eastbound Pomona (60) Freeway, and temporarily shutting down several freeway lanes in the Boyle Heights section of Los Angeles.

The crash was reported at 4:44 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada said.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, which spilled oil on the number 1 and 2 lanes when the truck overturned, she said.

The CHP shut down those lanes and declared a SigAlert at 5:08 a.m. because cars were spinning out in the oil.

The SigAlert is excepted to be in effect until 11 a.m., the CHP said.

A Caltrans crew was called to the scene and was cleaning up the spill, Posada said.
