One-year pilot program for Venice road diet is ending

The one-year road diet pilot program along Venice Boulevard is coming to an end.

The controversial plan removed one lane of Venice Blvd. in each direction in the West LA area in favor of bike lanes and parking

The city said it would return Venice Boulevard to its original configuration if the pilot program didn't work and now, with the year drawing to a close, angry residents and drivers are demanding officials live up to that.

But the current city budget includes $91 million dollars to continue the so called 'road diet' programs, despite opponents claiming the plan was a failure.

Meanwhile the most recent transportation surveys show the data as 'inconclusive' leaving the future of the program uncertain.
