One suspect shot in deputy-involved shooting in Lennox area

- A man who led deputies on a brief vehicle chase Friday was wounded in a deputy-involved shooting in the unincorporated Lennox area of Los Angeles County and a deputy was injured, authorities said.

The shooting occurred about 1:15 a.m. near the intersection of Lennox Boulevard and Firmona Avenue and involved deputies from the South Los Angeles station, according to Deputy Trina Schrader of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The wounded man was hospitalized in stable condition, authorities said. A deputy suffered a leg injury when struck by the suspect's vehicle. The injury was not life-threatening.

Deputies had tried to stop the suspect for a traffic violation in the neighborhood, but during the traffic stop he allegedly struck the deputy with his vehicle and sped off.

The man drove off and led deputies on a short pursuit that ended in a crash at Lennox Boulevard and Firmona Avenue, where the deputy-involved shooting occurred.

"The suspect was struck at least twice -- once in the lower leg, and once in the lower torso area,'' sheriff's Lt. Rodney Moore said.

The man's name was not immediately released.
