ANAHEIM, Calif. (FOX 11) - The saying "Love Thy Neighbor" was not taken lightly on Monday in an Anaheim Hills neighborhood affected by the 7,500-acre fire that prompted evacuations.
Dax Holt, well-known to FOX LA audiences, was in for a generous surprise. The former TMZ personality watched, live on his home security camera, a Good Samaritan try to protect his home from fire damage. The fiery scene Monday was dangerous enough for people, including Holt and family, to pack up some belongings and evacuate.
But it wasn't enough for Jason Standiford. The 27-year-old stayed behind."He had grabbed our hose," Holt told FOX 11 reporter Leah Uko. "And was spraying down all the eaves, the trees, the grass, the bushes --basically everything."
A very determined Standiford, seen on camera with a hose, is Holt's next-door neighbor. Holt watched his neighbor spray down his property all while it was happening. He saw it live from his security camera."And we talked to his mom and were like, 'he's crazy! What's he still doing there?! Tell him to get out'."
Like any mother, Debbie Standiford was alarmed and worried. She said she kept calling and telling her son to be safe and leave."He said to quit calling him," she said.
Standiford wanted to stay and spray."He loves them," Debbie continued. "So he figured if he was saving our house, he'd want to save theirs too."
The act, generous and appreciated, spread like a fire as Holt did the same thing and sprayed one of his neighbor's property."I had to pay it forward. They did it for me. I had to do it for them."
"It was cool to see a neighbor do something unprompted. We didn't ask him to do it, but he was out there."Standiford had to work Tuesday and couldn't meet with FOX 11, but said he was happy to help his neighbor.
