Stolen French bulldog puppies reunited with owner in Manhattan Beach

A Manhattan Beach man and his two French bulldogs have been reunited after they were stolen last month.

Pablo and Sophie were adopted a year ago into a loving home in Manhattan Beach. On April 13, the owners of the two dogs thought they ran away when they went missing after breakfast.

A neighbor later came forward with surveillance video after they realized the dogs were stolen.

Manhattan Beach Police shared surveillance photos of a man driving a silver Toyota who allegedly nabbed the dogs after they escaped the yard.

In one image, you can see Pablo sitting in the back seat of the car, which is described as an older model silver Toyota Camery with no hubcaps.

The dog’s owner said a good Samaritan caught Sophie, but accidentally handed her over to the suspect, who claimed she was his dog.

“The only thing I can think of is that it would be money but trying to sell them I think would be difficult because they have chips in them,” the owner said.

After news circulated of the stolen pups, the owner received a mysterious call in the middle of the night that his dogs had been dropped off at a Hawthorne fire station.

Police are still looking for the man -- who witnesses said was wearing Sherwin Williams gear with paint on his clothing.
