Motorcyclist killed in crash, woman injured with major injuries while attempting to help him

A motorcyclist in Lancaster was killed in a crash involving a pickup truck on Sunday, and a woman coming to the aid of the biker suffered major injuries when she was struck by a passing motorist, who stayed at the scene.

The initial crash occurred about 1:30 a.m. in the area of 15th Street East and Avenue I, according to a watch commander at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Lancaster station.

The motorcyclist was going west on Avenue I approaching the intersection of 15th Street East, as a red pickup truck was going east on Avenue I and making a left turn at the intersection, the Sheriff's Information Bureau reported.

At some point the motorcyclist was underneath the pickup truck and some bystanders came to his aid, the watch commander said.

Another car, going west on Avenue I, struck a woman who was assisting in the effort. She was rushed to area hospital with major injuries and the motorist whose vehicle struck her stayed at the scene.

Arriving paramedics pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene.

The condition of the driver in the pickup truck was not immediately known.

The sheriff's Lancaster station asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at 661-948-8466.
