Mother Nature Dishes Out a Scary Wake-up Call for WEHO Seniors

There were lots of tears, anxiety and even a few chuckles as seniors in West Hollywood tried to get beyond their first-thing-in-the-morning troubles. Rain hit their County-owned apartments so hard that water puddled on the rooftop which was undergoing solar panel installation.

That water seeped into the third and second floors of the building. When it started getting into the light fixtures that's when authorities started an evacuation of the complex. Firefighters said it had become potentially dangerous.

This was the second similar evacuation in as many months. Back in July a similar thing happened. In some cases, before today's incident, some residents were just getting back into their homes.

It's not clear how long people could be out this time. So, after the evacuees were brought to the West Hollywood Park Auditorium by bus, they were processed and given three options. One, was they could go with family and be cared for by them. Another option was they could get a hotel room. A third, for those who are very frail, they could go to assisted living centers. All of this at the expense of the County."

Meanwhile, building and safety officials are surveying the damage.
