Woman raped in her Manhattan Beach home; suspect sought

- A woman was raped in her Manhattan Beach home and police on Monday asked for the public's help in tracking down her attacker.

The woman told officers she arrived about 8:30 p.m. Sunday to her home in the 900 block of Valley Drive and that soon after a man entered the residence through the front door and sexually assaulted and raped her, according to Manhattan Beach Police Department Sgt. Tim Zins.

The suspect fled out the front door, according to Zins, who said it was unclear if he left the area on foot or in a vehicle.

The woman was not seriously injured, but was taken to a hospital for an evaluation, Zins said.

Miguel Kulczycki lives next door to the victim on Valley Drive near 9th Street. He said she called him and detailed what happened after a friend dropped her home.

"She forgot something else so she left the door open... She didn't have time to come back out. The guy was already coming up and just went inside her house," said Kulczycki, who added that she was too scared to fight back.

"She didn't want to create any big waves with the guy so she just followed what he said," said Kulczycki.

The suspect is described as black, in his early 40s, 6 feet 2 inches tall with an athletic build, possibly a thin mustache and medium complexion. He was wearing tan shorts, a dark T-shirt and gray tennis shoes.

Anyone with information about the suspect was urged to call Manhattan Beach Police Detective Jennifer Leach at (310) 802-5125 or the department tip line at (310) 902-5171.

Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS or at lacrimestoppers.org.
