Man wounded in off-duty officer involved shooting

MONTECITO HEIGHTS, Calif. (FOX 11 / CNS) - A suspect was wounded today in an officer-involved shooting in the Montecito Heights area of Los Angeles, police said.

The shooting occurred at 2:41 a.m. in the 500 block of Wheeling Way, said Los Angeles police Officer Ricardo Hernandez.

The officer who opened fire was off-duty at the time and not injured, Hernandez said. The suspect was taken to a hospital in critical condition and was in surgery.

The circumstances leading to the officer-involved shooting were not immediately available, he said.
