Man taken into custody after standoff with police in Burbank

A 27-year-old Arizona man holed up inside a Burbank home on Saturday for around 90 minutes, then gave himself up to police without incident, authorities said.

Officers were dispatched at 7:35 a.m. to a residence in the 1700 block of North Rose Street after a woman called police whispering about an abduction, said Sgt. Claudio Losacco of the Burbank Police Department. The call
disconnected almost immediately.

Officers arriving on the scene saw people running away from the home.

They were told by family members that the suspect was armed with firearms and holding additional family members against their will, Losacco said.

A crisis negotiator was called to the scene, two more people were released from the home and the armed suspect surrendered to police at about 9 a.m., he said.

Arizona resident Irving Espinosa-Delgado was booked into the Burbank City Jail on suspicion of residential burglary, kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon, Losacco said. Other booking charges were pending.

No shots were fired and no injuries were reported, he said.
