Man shot in the neck while driving in Garden Grove

Detectives with the Garden Grove Police Department will be out pounding the pavement today, they say.

Searching for surveillance tape, witnesses, clues, anything that will help lead them to the person who shot a man driving home last night.

The shooting happened just before 10 p.m. Sunday, while the victim was driving, accompanied by his wife, westbound on Westminster, near Newhope.

The victim told police that he first saw two cars in his rearview mirror, coming up behind them at a high rate of speed. He thought they might be racing. Suddenly he heard gunshots and then felt an impact. He'd been shot in the face!

After pulling over, his wife quickly took over the driving and rushed him straight to the hospital.

Police were called and say they did find shell casings on Westminster.

Witnesses there also reported hearing around six gunshots.

Police feel confident the man shot is an innocent victim, most likely of a stray bullet.

And while they don't know exactly what happened, theories include road rage or a gang-related shooting. Street racing is also a possibility although they say it is unlikely.

Meanwhile, the victim remains hospitalized and possibly faces facial surgery.

As for the suspects, the victims believe one of the cars was a newer white Cadillac SUV.
