Man killed in LAPD officer involved shooting

A man was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Van Nuys, authorities said today. The shooting occurred in the 14600 block of Valerio Street at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, said Los Angeles police Sgt. J. Hensley.

Officers responded to a report of a neighbors dispute and were directed to an adjoining house, LAPD Sgt. Barry Montgomery told news media outlets.

Montgomery said the officers were then confronted by a 30 year-old man who struck the officers in the head and shoulders with a hard object, at which point both officers opened fire on him.

Both officers were hospitalized for treatment of moderate injuries, Montgomery said.
