Man barricaded in Brea motel shoots at police, authorities say

-  A man who allegedly fired shots through a door today when officers arrived at a Brea motel to investigate a report of a suicidal subject was taken into custody after a more than four-hour standoff.
Officers were called to the Hyland Motel at 727 S. Brea Blvd. about 3 p.m., according to Brea police Lt. Darrin Devereux. When the officers arrived, they knocked on the door and shots rang out, he said.
The officers, who escaped injury, retreated for cover and did not return fire, Devereux said.
SWAT officers were summoned to negotiate with the unidentified barricaded suspect, Devereux said.
The suspect was shot with "less lethal" bean bag rounds and then tackled by a SWAT officer and taken into custody, police announced about 7:15 p.m.
The man suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital, Devereux said.
