Lakewood neighbors anxious a killer could still be on the loose

A bizarre death rattled a quiet Lakewood neighborhood early Wednesday morning.

The resident of a Carpintero Avenue home told L.A. County Sheriff Deputies one of his guests strangled another guest from Hawaiian Gardens, a neighborhood about four miles away.

Deputies say the witness' mom was home at the time.

The man told deputies he drove the alleged attacker to another location, then came home and called 9-1-1.

He told operators the victim wasn't breathing.

Paramedics arrived and found him dead.

Neighbors are now on edge, knowing no arrests have been made and that a killer could still be out there.

"We're all wondering where the suspect is - we heard that he got driven away by one of the occupants of the home, so we're wondering where he's at," said neighbor Joan Tardibuono.

Deputies say they can't confirm yet if the man was strangled.

They say the witness is cooperating with them.
