LA County Fair attendance increases 3 percent in 2016

More than 1.3 million people attended the LA County Fair, which ended its 19-day run over the weekend, organizers announced Monday.

The Fair had its highest final Saturday attendance of 121,157 people on Saturday, which was also the biggest single-day attendance at the Fair since 2007.

Overall attendance was up 3.18 percent from last year.

"This was one of our best fairs ever,'' Los Angeles County Fair Interim CEO Michael Ortiz said. "Our guests thoroughly enjoyed every aspect, from the attractions, rides, exhibits and animals to the food. Our concert series
did extremely well and we had some of the best weather in years.''

Performers at this year's fair included Gabriel Iglesias, Blondie, Iggy Azalea, Billy Currington and Leann Rimes.

Attendees also weren't shy about dining on the fair's high-calorie food offerings. The Chicken Charlie vendor reported sales of 7,000 Krispy Kreme triple-decker burgers, 20,000 balls of hot sauce, 6,000 deep-fried bacon s'mores and 10,000 chicken-and-waffles on a stick. The Midway Gourmet, meanwhile, served up 100,000 turkey legs, 50,000 corn dogs and 15,000 pounds of big beef ribs.
