John Wayne tops airport survey, LAX ranks almost last

- John Wayne Airport in Orange County topped 22 large airports in J.D. Power's recent annual survey.

35,000 travelers ranked airports in 6 categories:

Terminal facilities, Airport Accessibility, security check, baggage claim, check in /baggage check, food/beverage/retail.

Convenience possibly one reason LAX -  with its frequent construction - didn't do well in comparison.

LAX was second to last in the Mega Airport Ranking, sixteen spots below Orlando International Airport, the top airport in that category.

I could have gone to LAX which was a shorter distance but I did come to Orange County because I knew it would be easier to get in and out," said frequent flyer Richard Camp.

In a statement, LAX saying it's working hard to improve, saying:

"In addition to a $14-billion investment in infrastructure and facilities, which is the largest public works project in the history of California, Los Angeles World Airports is also investing in its people and services."

One example came Thursday when LAX unveiled a passport control app for certain travelers to go through customs quicker.

Those types of apps could help boost LAX's ranking.

JD Power says anxiety relieving programs is really important .
