Investigation underway after man found shot to death in East Los Angeles

Authorities say a man was found shot to death in the driver's seat of a car in East Los Angeles.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies from the East Los Angeles Station responded to a call of shots fired just after 12:30 a.m. Monday in an alley behind a Burger King restaurant, located between South Woods Avenue and South Atlanta Boulevard.

A man who appeared to be in his 30s was found shot to death in a vehicle, deputies said.

Witnesses reported hearing up to five gunshots.

Homicide detectives believe the man was driving down the alley at the time, an area with several homeless tents and encampments nearby.

Authorities were investigating if the victim was targeted or it was a random shooting.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
