As Hurricane Matthew approached Florida, at least 18 nonstop flights arriving and departing at Los Angeles International Airport were canceled Friday, an airport official said.

The flights involved airports in Miami, Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale, an LAX spokesperson said. The canceled nonstop flights include eight arriving and 10 departing flights that had been scheduled between earlier today and
midnight.

Passengers making connections at Midwest and Northwest airports to get to the Mid-Atlantic coastal and Southeast regions, where Hurricane Matthew is expected to pass through, are advised to check with their airlines regarding
status of their flights.
