Nearly 2,000 animals found in Montclair warehouse, many dead

Nearly 2,000 chickens, parakeets, lovebirds and other exotic birds were found Friday in a warehouse in Montclair. Many of the animals were reportedly dead.

According to investigators with the Inland Valley Humane Society and SPCA, exotic fish were also found.

The Montclair Police Department worked with the humane society to respond to the complex after hearing noises coming from the area.

Investigators say the animals were found in "appalling" conditions with little ventilation in the warehouse that was covered in feces and trash.

The owner of the animals was arrested this week on an unrelated charge and now faces charges of felony animal cruelty.
