Homeless people living in their car or RV now have a safe place to park at night

For the first time in the city of Los Angeles, homeless people who live in their cars or RV's now have a safe place to park at night.

Two months ago, North Valley Caring Services on Rayen opened up their back gated parking lot to 25 homeless drivers.

Oscar now says he lives in this RV with his mom and parks it here nightly.

The safe parking program was officially unveiled Wednesday by Mayor Eric Garcetti, Councilmember Monica Rodriguez, and the center's staffers.

"We're leveraging sleeping on campus and we're asking you to work away your homelessness. We're providing all the services so there's no excuse for you to not go through this process," said North Valley Caring Services Manny Flores.

Services include showers, food, and feeling heard.

"I lost my drive, and I'm a little bit better now, way better. I didn't believe in myself," said Oscar Gaona.

Oscar says he's been given job and housing referrals.

Community workers say a third of the 30 participants have found homes.

"I hope people find this program and use it, and get off the streets," said Gaona"

A place to park..... To find your drive.

There are more safe park programs available for those in need. Five already in L.A. And four more are in the works.
