Homeless car thief dies while being arrested at a McDonald's

A man wanted in a car theft died Tuesday while being taken into custody in the Temple City area, the sheriff's department reported.

The incident occurred about 5:25 a.m. in the 6900 block of Rosemead Boulevard, according to the sheriff's department.

The man, who was in his 30s, died at the scene -- a McDonald's restaurant, according to the coroner's office. The circumstances of the death were under investigation.

No shots were fired, the sheriff's department reported.

An autopsy was pending to determine the cause of death. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.
