Hit-and-run accident prompts road rage shooting, crash

Authorities today reported a vehicle-to-vehicle shooting that may have been the aftermath of a hit-and-run collision, caused a vehicle to crash but resulted in no injuries.

The incident began in Hawthorne when the victim of the hit-and-run collision began pursuing the offending vehicle, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Joseph Williams.

Two occupants of that vehicle fired at their pursuer, missing him but striking his car, causing it to crash, he said, adding the car's driver was not hurt in the crash.

The post-shooting crash was reported near the intersection of South Compton Avenue and East 118th Avenue in unincorporated Willowbrook around 10:20 p.m. Monday, the California Highway Patrol reported.
