Heavy holiday season at LAX kicks off Friday

The heavy holiday travel period hits Friday. For the next 17 days, expect more flyers than usual at LAX.

"Everyone has nerves. They're trying to get somewhere, they're anxious, they're excited, they want to make their flights on time," said Lola Lipsey, the sales manager at Wally Park, a nearby parking structure.

All 1,833 parking spots in her lot are reserved starting Tuesday.

According to Expedia.com, LAX is expected to be the busiest airport in the country this season.

3.5 million travelers are expected to go through the airport from now until the first weekend of January, according to LAX officials.

Flyers like Laurel and Eugene Lee made it a point to get to LAX just a little bit earlier Friday, anticipating the worst.

"I think it will take an hour to get through security which is why we're a little bit early," said Laurel Lee.

With LAX expected to be eight percent busier this holiday season from last year, many passengers are eager to just get on their flights.

"We're excited to leave, but we'll be much more excited when we're reading our dumb magazines on that flight," said Eugene Lee.
