Garden Grove man killed in officer-involved shooting after reportedly stabbing family member

A 20-year-old man was killed in Garden Grove early Saturday morning in an officer-involved shooting after reportedly stabbing one of his own family members.

Garden Grove police say officers were called to a home in the 12100 block of Wilken Way to investigate a report of a suicidal man. As they arrive at the scene, police say dispatch advised the officers that the 911 caller stated the man had just killed someone and was armed with a knife.

As officers approached the front of the home, an officer-involved shooting occurred and the suspect was shot several times, Garden Grove police said. The suspect has been identified as 20-year-old Andrew Giovanni Meza of Garden Grove.

Officers also discovered an 18-year-old woman who had been stabbed by the suspect, according to authorities. A knife was recovered by investigators at the scene.

Garden Grove Fire Department paramedics arrived and quickly gave medical treatment to the woman and suspect. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was rushed to the hospital and is in stable condition.

No officers were injured in the incident. The investigation is ongoing. The Orange County District Attorney's Office is the lead agency in the officer-involved shooting investigation.
