Free solar eclipse viewing glasses offered at Santa Monica Pier event

Free eclipse viewing glasses will be up for grabs Monday evening at the Santa Monica Pier during an event put on by Conserve Energy SoCal.

Homemade filters and ordinary sunglasses, even dark ones, are not safe for looking at the sun.

Conserve Energy SoCal plans to also have a solar powered light show at the Ferris Wheel to kick off the night.

It's all free..but the push from Conserve Energy SoCal is to remind consumers to conserve energy, since during a solar eclipse, less sunlight reaches solar panels.

If you can't make it Monday night, there's still time to get free glasses, an entire list can be found on this website: http://conserveenergysocal.com/

According to Conserve Energy SoCAL, this is where you can get eclipse glasses for free. Make sure to call before to confirm they're still there:
