Fire breaks out at senior living facility in Westlake District; injuries reported

LOS ANGELES (CNS / FOX 11) - Several people suffered burns and smoke inhalation injuries Monday night when a fire broke out in a 15-story senior living facility in the Westlake district.

The fire was reported about 8:45 p.m. at 455 S. Union Ave., according to Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Approximately 150 firefighters were able to knock down the fire in 42 minutes, Scott said.

Five people suffered burns, three were critically injured and two were in serious condition, according to Scott.

Some residents were told to evacuate the building and others were advised to shelter in place, Scott said.

The cause and loss were under investigation.
