Ex-employee bursts into workplace safety training, fires shot

According to the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department, it was just about noon when an ex-worker from the Goodyear plant in the 9600 block of Ferron walked into the building…to a conference room and started threatening employees.

The way police describe it, "Employees at the business were attending a safety training meeting when the suspect entered the conference room. The suspect began making threats of violence towards the employees."

The victim, the safety coordinator, observed the suspect reaching for his waistband and believed he had a handgun. The victim grabbed the suspect and an altercation ensued. During the altercation, the victim pulled the handgun out and fired one round.

"The struggle continued, and the victim pulled the gun away from the suspect. The man started to leave the business and the victim tried to stop him. The suspect then pepper sprayed the victim."

Authorities say the suspect, believed to be Hispanic in his 30's or 40's had the.22 caliber handgun in his possession before he was taken into custody Friday evening.
