Employee killed during robbery at Jack in the Box in El Monte

Sheriff's homicide detectives are continuing their investigation Saturday into the circumstances that led to an employee being shot and killed during an attempted robbery at a Jack in the Box restaurant in El Monte.

The name of the male shooting victim will be released pending notification of next of kin, according to Investigator Joyce Kato of the coroner's office.

The shooting was reported at 7:50 p.m. Friday in the 9200 block of Flair Drive, near the San Bernardino (10) Freeway, according to Deputy Jeffrey Gordon of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Gordon said.
