El Segundo police seek men suspected of hotel attacks, robberies

- Police in El Segundo are searching for up to eight men who were seen on security video robbing and beating a man, then attacking another man and a group of females in the parking lot of a hotel.

It happened April 28 at the Marriott Residence Inn at 2135 East El Segundo Blvd. The video shows a man police say is in his late teens to early 20s get into a shouting match with at least four of the men, who were in a late model black or dark blue Honda, then take off running. The men jumped out of
the car, chased him down and beat him before stealing his backpack, Lt. Raymond Garcia of El Segundo Police said.

A man who tried to stop the beating was also attacked, Garcia said.

The men then confronted a group of females, one of whom pulled a bat and threw it at them before running off. The men chased after them and a 16-year-old girl was robbed of some jewelry, Garcia said.

"Either they were waiting for people to show up in the parking lot or they possibly knew some of the people,'' Garcia said.

After the incidents, the eight men are seen on video leaving the scene in two cars, the second an older model gold Lexus.  The Honda is missing a left-rear hubcap and has damage on the front-left fender and the Lexus has damage to the rear-bumper area, ABC7 reported.

Garcia said the men are in their late teens to early 20s.

Police are asking for witnesses to the incidents, as well as the person who had his backpack stolen, to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact El Segundo Detective Paul Saldana at (310) 524-2284.
