Donkey leads herd of escaped animals through West Covina

A donkey led a herd of escaped sheep and goats through streets in West Covina early Thursday morning before being captured by authorities.

West Covina Police responded to a call about the escaped animals wandering in the area of Francisquito and Valinda shortly after midnight.

Officers found several sheep and goats being led by a donkey walking along the residential streets.

According to a post on West Covina Police Department's Facebook page, the group of animals "at first failed to comply with officers as they evaded capture."

The LA Sheriff's Department was called in for backup and eventually officers safely corralled all the animals.

Police learned the animals had escaped from a home in Valinda through an unsecured gate and the owner was contacted to help herd the animals back home.

None of the animals were injured.
