Detectives continue to search for clues in cold case murder of Korean war vet

A year has gone by and still no new clues. A family man who made a home in Carson was killed in a street robbery. Fox 11 first told you about the murder of the Korean war vet. Phil Shuman joins us with the family's plea for help on the anniversary of his murder.

If you're like most people you'd probably agree that while all murders are tragic, there is in a sense a moral difference between say criminals shooting and killing other criminals, or gang on gang violence, as compared to the beating and murder of an innocent 85-year-old man who was just walking down the street...Frank Hernandez.

Hernandez, a Navy vet and beloved in Carson, leaves behind four children, 9 grandchildren, a widow whom he was married to for 60 years, and determined detectives with the LA County Sheriff's Department.

It's been a year, and despite a good sketch and witnesses, there have been no solid leads. The Sheriff's Homicide phone number is answered by a person, 24/7 and the hope is some new publicity about this case, which happened in May of last year, will generate some new clues, leads, tips, and will encourage someone, as they say , to '' do the right thing."

There's still a $25,000 reward. That phone number by the way is 323-890-5500.
