Deputy wounded in shooting at San Bernardino County apartment complex

ADELANTO, Calif. (FOX 11) - A San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputy was wounded early Thursday in a shooting in Adelanto.

The shooting was reported just after 1 a.m. in the 18000 block of Bellflower Street. Deputies conducting a traffic stop heard gunfire coming from a nearby apartment complex.

When they went to investigate, authorities said more shots rang out and deputies returned fire.

During the gunfire, one deputy was wounded. Sources told FOX 11 the deputy was shot in the stomach and was taken into surgery.

The surrounding area was shut down and a SWAT team responded to the scene.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said a suspect was taken into custody, believed to be the shooter, and several other people were detained.
