Demonstrators with 'Save Lexi' campaign gathered in front of the DTLA Federal Courthouse

Demonstrators with the "Save Lexi" campaign gathered in front of the Federal Courthouse in downtown L.A. on Tuesday afternoon to send a message to lawmakers.

They're asking for support for their petition to "Bring Lexi Home," which has garnered more than 76,000 signatures in a few short days.

Lexi is a 6-year-old foster child who was taken from her Santa Clarita foster family Monday afternoon with an entire community watching.

Social workers with the California Department of Family Services executed a court order to remove Lexi from the home and place her in the care of relatives living in Utah.

According to Lexi's foster father, Rusty Page, the child barely knows the family in Utah, but the Children's Law Center of California contests that statement.

Lexi has had monthly in-person visits to Utah as well as weekly Skype calls with her family there, according Executive Director, Leslie Heimov, at the Children's Law Center.

Heimov also states, Lexi's sibling will live in the same home and another sibling lives down the street.

The Department of Family Services said it's the agency's goal to reunite families.

The Page family has been trying to adopt Lexi for the last four years, but their efforts have been blocked by the Indian Child Welfare Act passed in the 1970s to keep Native American children with biological relatives.

The Children's Law Center wouldn't comment on whether Lexi's family in Utah plans to legally adopt her.
