Dapper Cadaver: Hollywood's Little Shop Of Horrors

If you are a fan of horror and gore, psycho thrillers, or police procedurals, you've seen the work of a local prop in the San Fernando Valley that specializes in everything death-related. Dapper Cadaver is Hollywood's little shop of horrors.

Right off the 5 Freeway, in an unassuming storefront in Sun Valley, Eileen and B.J. Winslow create gruesome props - dismembered bodies, zombies, dinosaurs - for movies and television, including X-Men, Law and Order, Bones, and Scream Queens. Dapper Cadaver began like many small businesses, in a garage office. "We were working out of my garage, making headstones, making mummies, making corpses.

People would show up in the middle of the night, looking for a "human" head, hand me fifty bucks," explains B.J. He jokes, "the neighbors didn't really talk to me." The company's made hundreds of bodies over the years. And there's a method to the madness. They have a sort of "one size fits all" body form that is the basis for all their work, which is then "gored" up as needed. "It's telling stores in an authentic, realistic way.

That's why we put so much care into what we do. We want to make sure even the scariest story is told in an authentic manner." No matter how gross it is.
