Covering Hurricane Irma: FOX 11's Phil Shuman arrives in Florida

Very tense, anxious times were in Florida Saturday for millions of people -- some of whom chose to stay behind even though they were ordered out.

Others have fled northbound as fast as they could.

Gas is difficult to find as a lot of stations are out of it. Hotel rooms are almost impossible to get, though our corporate travel agency was able to pull off a minor miracle and find us a place to stay Saturday night.

We are not so sure about the days going forward, and there is so much uncertainty over exactly where Irma will go, how hard it will hit and what kind of damage it will do.

We started in Atlanta early Saturday morning and made our way as far south as Jacksonville, trying to be safe and trying to cover the story. We will be here indefinitely.

People we talked to for the most part have a pretty good attitude about it all, but what else can you do? The idea of leaving your house behind and not knowing if it's going to be there when you get back has got to be among the hardest things you could ever do.
