Courageous teen brings awareness to childhood cancer one lemonade stand at a time

(FOX 11) - When 13-year-old Jayhann Escalante was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia last year, he decided to put his fears aside and instead help other children battling Leukemia by encouraging them to never give up.

"I just want to say it's going to be fine. It's going to be okay. You just got to keep fighting hard," Escalante says.

In between his still-monthly chemotherapy sessions at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, and with the help of his mother Amira Escalante, Jayhann has been hosting fundraisers, mainly lemonade stands, to help bring awareness to the fight against childhood cancer and other diseases.

"I want to help other kids battling cancer like me," he says.

Jayhann's dedication to helping others is an inspiration. His mother, Amira, says he's taught her so much about life.

"He is just a very loving person, always wants to give back."

One of his doctors, Dr. Alan Wayne, who is also the hospital's Director of the Children's Center of Cancer and Blood Diseases, calls his dedication astounding.

"We're really proud of him," Dr. Wayne said. "He's been on chemotherapy for over a year, and for him to find the time and energy to raise money, to devote his after-hours time to raising awareness for the fight against childhood cancer and other diseases is really an inspiration."
