LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11) - The debate over gender neutral bathrooms is heating up at UCLA. The campus announced this week it will open its 200th single-stall all-gender restroom this month but some vocal opponents are stirring up controversy.
A photo showing three female UCLA students and a male UC Santa Barbara student is going viral.
It shows the female students holding signs saying "Get your agenda out of my bathroom" and "There are only 2 genders" also one sign says "Transgenderism is a mental disorder."
The photo was taken after a discussion on transgendered people. One girl holding the sign was running for Vice President of the Bruin Republicans, she won the election.
She says the response to the picture includes "horrific death threats, curse words, all for us standing with our opinions."
The Bruin Democrats released a statement saying "while every student is entitled to their opinion, we disagree with the views expressed in the photo."
UCLA plans to open 320 single-stall gender neutral bathrooms by next month.
