City of Industry bans marijuana sales, cultivation and distribution

- The City of Industry City Council unanimously voted Thursday to approve an ordinance banning marijuana cultivation, sales and distribution within the city.

"Without a system in place at the state level to track the movement of marijuana through the distribution chain, the risk of crime from theft and burglary to manufacturing and distribution facilities is significant,'' City of Industry Mayor Mark Radecki said. "And, until traceable, stolen product will have street value for sale to minors, which is absolutely unacceptable.''

The city's municipal code currently prohibits medical marijuana dispensaries, along with cultivation and delivery.

In October 2016, the City Council extended a moratorium on the recreational use of marijuana which was set to expire this October, but the council's latest action will keep the moratorium active.

California voters legalized the sale of recreational marijuana in 2016. That law will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2018.
