Carjacking ended with a Maserati stuck on a curb in Santa Monica

A pre-Christmas Eve carjacking ended with a Maserati stuck on a curb in Santa Monica and the entire passenger side of the car completely smashed.

"This is very much a Hollywood story," neighbor Alex Lithwick said. "A beautiful car, police involved, helicopters circling, but luckily nobody was hurt."

Los Angeles police said the incident started near South Sepulveda Blvd. and West Pico Boulevard when the Maserati's owner was leaving work.

"The victim was going to his car coming out of his business and the suspect walked up behind him and pointed a sharp object in his back and told him to release the car to him," Sgt. Rodney Carter with the LAPD West Los Angeles division, said.

Carter said, the victim gave up his sports car, but a few hours later his girlfriend spotted the suspect cruising the neighborhood in the Maserati.

"They followed the vehicle and notified the Los Angeles Police Department," Carter said.

Police chased the suspect to California and 16 th St. in Santa Monica where he hit two parked Hondas and blew off the Maserati's two right tires.

Katie McCabe-Lefeber went outside to survey the damage, but found out her car was caught in the mess.

"I just know it was pushed like 5 feet forward because I was not parked in the red," McCabe-Lefeber said.

Witnesses said the Maserati skidded to a stop and the suspect fled on foot.

Police arrested him a short time later at a nearby parking lot.
